Tashkeel is pleased to present Precarious Beings, a solo exhibition by Hamad Almuzaini.

The exhibition examines the nature of placemaking within the context of Kuwait City, looking closely at everyday details, overlooked objects, and urban infrastructures that shape how places are formed, used, and understood. Through photography, drawing, and sculpture, Almuzaini traces the subtle relationships between people, objects, systems, and the built environment.

Precarious Beings turns its attention to the quiet, often unnoticed elements that contribute to the formation of cities. From broken poles loosely securing an electrical box to a maintenance worker’s discarded glove, the works stem from accumulated observations of Kuwait City’s most ordinary details.

Revisiting these observations becomes a way to consider how meaning is produced within public space. What does it signify when something is left broken, adapted, or abandoned? How do informal gestures, everyday behaviours, and overlooked infrastructures contribute to a shared sense of place?

The exhibition unfolds through three interrelated frameworks: Subjects, Situations, and Simulations. Together, they explore how ordinary urban elements can reveal wider systems of movement, maintenance, adaptation, and human presence.

“My practice involves observing and researching built environments and the ways we generate and respond to the notion of ‘place,’ both pragmatically and idealistically. By examining widely encountered subjects within cities, I reinterpret how we navigate and interact with these places—uncovering gestures, behaviours, and motivations that quietly shape the act of placemaking.”
