Cristiana de Marchi was born in Italy and currently lives and works between Dubai and Beirut. An artist, curator and poet, she was educated at the University of Torino and University of Roma from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Masters with first class honours (1994, 1999). In 2012 she completed a course in Curatorial Practice, organised by the California College of the Arts, USA in partnership with Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi.

De Marchi has cooperated with several cultural institutions (Cultural Service of the Italian Embassy in Lebanon; Archaeological Museum of Beirut; Lebanese National Council for Scientific Research; Archaeology Museum of Sharjah) and given lectures and seminars at both Italian and Lebanese universities and Emirati institutions.

An artist, curator and writer, beyond her personal artistic and literary research she publishes articles and essays in catalogues and magazines devoted to contemporary art.

She has taken part in residencies at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia (2012); Santa Fe Art Institute, USA (2014); Rijksakademie, Amsterdam (2014); MOCA Yinchuan, China (2016); and University of Cincinnati (2018–19). Cristiana received the Italian ‘Premio ORA’ in 2015, the ‘Best 15 Award’ in 2017 at Paratissima, Turin and the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship, 2017-2018. Her work has been extensively exhibited in the USA, Europe and Middle East including UAE.

Cristiana de Marchi was a mentor to Hadeyeh Badri as part of her participation in the Critical Practice Programme 2017.
