Muhummad Sahrum

Muhummad Shamin Sahrum is a Malaysian artist and designer. He holds a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Greenwich, UK. Muhummad operates at the intersections of architecture, art and design. His work often delves into subjects that seek to comprehend the social psyche, collective memories, material detritus of the city and the reconciliation of the past and present.

He frequently operates within the overlaps of architecture, art and design. Demonstrated through his various projects spanning the scale from strategy to spatial design, Muhummad co-founded No-To-Scale* a multi-disciplinary design studio exploring product design and curation alongside architecture, focusing on issues related to the built environment. He has 10 years of working as an architect, designer and currently as a strategic design consultant in the built environment. Muhummad established his art practice in 2018, part of a long-term trajectory to overlap teaching, practicing and research within a single career. His art operates in parallel with his design practice, exploring themes which require a differing approach and interpretation; enabling him to research lines of inquiry that do not fit with a design-based methodology. His work has been selected as finalist of the Young Contemporaries show hosted by the Malaysian National Art Gallery in 2019 and 2022 (Jury Mention Award). Concurrently, Muhummad engages in both academic and public art and design outreach initiatives through lectures, podcasting and writing.
