Ichraq Bouzidi
Ichraq Bouzidi explores media ranging from illustration to sculpture, installation and painting. With a subtle minimalistic approach, her work resonates with images culled from the realm of imagination, in which the duality between clarity of content and ambiguity is the focus. By manipulating the viewer to cause confusion, her compositions generate emotion, balancing on the edge of recognition and alienation.
Ichraq directly responds to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences in a surreal way. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, she seeks to question conflicting aspects of contemporary society in a multi-layered approach. She explores the themes of duality, identity and collective memory, manifesting as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet, well-known tropes merge, meanings shift, past and present fuse. Time and memory always play a key role. Ichraq holds a Master's degree in Architecture with an emphasis on interstitial spaces in fragmented cities, focusing on a study of Satwa in Dubai. She has previously exhibited at Tashkeel in COVID Conversations (2020), Play (2019) and Made in Tashkeel (2019).
