Chafa Ghaddar (1986) was born in Lebanon and currently lives in Dubai. She graduated from Académie Libanaise de Beaux Arts (ALBA) where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 2007 and a Master’s degree in Visual Arts in 2009.
In 2012, she attended an intensive course in fresco and traditional painting techniques in Florence, Italy. While developing a career in wall painting and surface finishing, she explores the use of fresco in contemporary practices as well as other processes and works equally with murals, painting, drawing, photography and mixed media. She was awarded the Boghossian Art Prize for painting in 2014 and was Artist-in-Residence at Villa Empain, Brussels, in October/November 2015.
Chafa executes murals in the professional contemporary art field and has participated in several collective exhibitions and projects such as ‘exposure 4’ (Beirut Art Center, 2012), ‘On Fleeting Grounds’ (Galerie Janine Rubeiz, 2013) and ‘Nostalgic Imagery’ (Galerie Janine Rubeiz, 2014), ‘Journeys through our Heritage’ (Beirut Exhibition Centre, 2013), ‘L'espace de la feuille’ (Galerie Tanit, 2015) and ‘Feminites Plurielles’ (Galerie Tanit, 2018), ‘Strata’ in collaboration with AHO (A Hypothetical Office) (Dubai Design Days, 2017) and ‘The space of the avocado tree’ (Art Dubai, 2018 and Made in Tashkeel 2018).
Her debut solo exhibition ‘The Visit’ took place at Galerie Tanit, Beirut, in November 2018. She is currently developing her first permanent and public art commission curated by Amanda Abi Khalil as part of A.I.R. Dubai Programme 2017 in collaboration with Art Dubai, Tashkeel and Dubai Culture & Arts Authority.
Chafa Ghaddar exhibited 'Recesses', marking the culmination of her participation in Tashkeel Critical Practice Programme 2019.
