Discover the colourful magic of melted crayons in this playful Sunday Funday workshop, where young artists will transform ordinary crayons into vibrant, light-catching artworks. Using colourful crayon shavings and transparent sheets, children will explore how colours blend and form unexpected patterns and textures when melted together.
Through guided, age-appropriate activities, children will select their favourite colours, arrange crayon shavings and experiment with different compositions. With the instructor handling the heating process, their colourful designs will be transformed into translucent sheets that can be cut into playful shapes and assembled into decorative suncatchers. Children will then add frames and hanging elements to complete their creations.
By the end of the workshop, each child will take home a colourful handmade suncatcher that comes to life when displayed near a sunny window.
Why Choose This Workshop?
This workshop introduces children to the exciting possibilities of colour, transparency and texture through a fun and accessible art-making experience. Working with melted crayons encourages experimentation and creative discovery as children observe how colours interact and transform. The process also develops fine motor skills, an understanding of composition and confidence in making artistic choices. With all heating equipment handled by the instructor, young artists can safely enjoy creating a unique decorative artwork that captures and filters natural light.
What Participants Will Learn
Children will begin by exploring colour combinations and selecting crayon shades for their designs. They will learn how to arrange crayon shavings on transparent, heat-safe sheets to create patterns and compositions, then observe how the colours blend and spread during the instructor-supervised melting process. Once the materials have cooled, they will explore cutting shapes, arranging decorative elements and assembling their artwork into a hanging suncatcher. By the end of the workshop, each child will have completed a colourful creation ready to display near a window.
