Maitha Demithan is an artist based in Dubai. Her first drawings were sketched in the sand, which formed an appreciation for colour, texture, line and shadow. Maitha’s work has appeared in various exhibitions including ‘Emerge’ (Venice, 2011). Her first scanned self-portraits appeared in ‘Documentation’ (Tashkeel, 2009) and her first solo show was ‘Mutajadid’ (Tashkeel, 2014), which included experimental installations and new media.
Maitha joined Tashkeel in 2008 as Member 8. She has also exhibited with Tashkeel in ‘Silent Conversations’ (2009), ‘Across the Gulf’(Brisbane Biennial, 2009), ‘Portrait of a Generation’ (2010), ‘As the Saying Goes’ (2011), ‘Made in Tashkeel’ (2009, 2015), Biladi – UAE Pavilion, EXPO2010 Shanghai (2010), ‘Emirati Vision’ (Berlin, 2011), ‘Metamorphosis’ (2014), ‘Sustaining Identity’ (2015), ‘Connectivity’ (2016). She was a 2014 A.i.R programme recipient and has exhibited with Tashkeel at Art Dubai (2011, 2012, 2014) and Beirut Art Fair (2012).
