Abdulla Abbas
Abdulla Abbas is an Emirati architect exploring how design can reflect the Gulf’s cultural and environmental identity. A graduate of the American University of Sharjah, he is devoted to cultivating a distinct architectural language rooted in the region’s traditions while responsive to its evolving needs. He sees architecture not merely as the making of structures, but as a catalyst for social and environmental transformation, bridging heritage, innovation, and lived experience. His work draws from regional forms and everyday life, engaging questions of cultural dissonance and urban change, helping him win competitions like the Abu Dhabi Art Pavilion (2024) and Urban Commissions at Dubai Design Week (2025).
Beyond architecture, Abdulla sketches, paints, builds models, and experiments with digital media, using each as a tool to explore and shape ideas. He is currently co-leading a studio, Some Kind of Practice, which uses archival research and fieldwork analysis to uncover new narratives about the region. Each project seeks to tell an untold story, teaching audiences about the UAE’s land, its people, its culture, and its layered histories. Through this interdisciplinary approach, Abdulla strives to craft spaces that resonate with the Gulf’s cultural essence while contributing to its aesthetic and ecological future.
