This introductory workshop invites participants to experience the art of woodworking combined with leather craftsmanship by creating their own handcrafted wooden box featuring a decorative leather inlay.
Designed for beginners, the session provides comprehensive hands-on training in fundamental woodworking skills using hand tools such as saws, chisels, and mallets, emphasizing safety and technique.
Participants will learn how to select and prepare hardwood, accurately measure and cut wood, and construct precise joints to assemble a sturdy and elegant box approximately 15x15x10 cm in size.
The workshop also introduces the process of creating leather inlays—tracing, cutting, and optionally embossing vegetable-tanned leather—to enhance the wooden piece with tactile and visual contrast.
Through guided instruction, attendees will gain confidence in clamping techniques, surface finishing with sandpaper, and applying protective finishes like beeswax or polyurethane.
The program fosters an appreciation for meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail, ensuring participants not only make a unique keepsake but also acquire skills to approach future woodworking and leather projects independently.
All materials and tools are provided for a safe, creative, and fulfilling crafting experience culminating in the presentation and reflection on each participant’s finished work.
