This is a comprehensive introductory course designed to guide participants through the foundational skills and techniques of shaping clay on a pottery wheel.
This series covers each essential step in detail, starting with preparing and wedging the clay to remove air bubbles and ensure consistency.
Participants will then learn the crucial skill of centering the clay on the spinning wheel, which is the cornerstone of successful wheel throwing.
The series progresses to teaching how to open the centered clay to create the hollow of the form, followed by pulling and shaping the walls to build basic forms such as cylinders, bowls, and simple vessels.
Instruction includes how to control wheel speed, hand positioning, and pressure to create even walls and smooth shapes.
The course also introduces tools and methods for trimming excess clay from the base to refine the shape and prepare the piece for drying and firing.
Designed for individuals with little or no prior experience, this series focuses on building confidence and foundational knowledge, helping beginners develop the skills needed to create functional and decorative pottery on the wheel.
By the end of the course, participants will have hands-on experience with the entire wheel throwing process and a strong basis to continue exploring more advanced ceramic techniques.
