Wheel throwing series - Beginner

This eight-session series introduces participants to the essential techniques of wheel throwing through a gradual, hands-on approach. Starting with the basics, participants will build their confidence on the wheel while creating a variety of forms, including bowls, plates, planters, vases and more. By the end of the series, they will have a strong foundation in wheel throwing and an understanding of the process from shaping clay to preparing pieces for firing.

• Basics – Introduction to clay preparation, centring, opening and pulling
• Bowl – Developing curved forms and controlling wall thickness
• Plate – Throwing wider, lower forms
• Planter – Combining proportion, depth and functional design
• Donut – Exploring a more playful and sculptural wheel-thrown form
• Vase – Developing height and shaping the profile
• Collaring – Controlling and narrowing forms on the wheel
• Trimming & Kiln – Refining finished pieces and understanding preparation for firing
