Pop-in and Paint, the Gift of Art: Miniature Oil Painting
Ended - Wednesday 7 December 2022
Tashkeel Artist-in-Residence (2022-23), Alonsa Guevara is a New York-based artist originally from Rancagua, Chile. Her paintings are a window to an imaginary universe where the lines between fantasy and reality are blurred. Her work explores questions of womanhood, identity and belonging while celebrating the connection between humankind and nature. Her main inspiration derives from the experiences of living in three different countries, and is especially impacted by formative childhood memories of living in the Ecuadorian rainforest with her family for seven years. Alonsa subsequently returned to Chile to receive her BFA from Pontifical Catholic University in 2009. In 2011, she moved to New York for the MFA programme at the New York Academy of Art. She was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant in 2013 and received the Academy's Fellowship in 2015. Alonsa's work has been published in Forbes Magazine, Time Out NYC Magazine, VICE, among others and has been exhibited internationally, including China, Mexico, Denmark, Argentina and Chile. Her most recent solo show ‘Apparitions’ was in 2021 at Anna Zorina Gallery, New York.

Join Tashkeel Artist-in-Residence Alonsa Guevara for a miniature oil painting workshop suitable for artists of all levels, from beginners to advanced, aged 15 years and above.
During the three-hour session, participants will learn how to make miniature paintings inspired by their favourite tiny objects. Using personal photos of favourite small objects as reference, participants will learn how to use a photo as a model and how to interpret the light, colour and textures through oil paint. With Alonsa’s careful guidance, they will learn different oil painting techniques, colour development and colour mixing. Most importantly, participants will learn to capture details and work with small brushes.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to paint miniature works from photos and so that they may integrate it into their personal art practice moving forward.
