Photo Embroidery

Inspired by Hamad Almuzaini’s exhibition Precarious Beings, this workshop invites participants to look more closely at the overlooked objects, traces and informal interventions found within everyday urban environments. The session begins with a guided exhibition tour exploring how Almuzaini uses photography, drawing and sculpture to reinterpret ordinary details and reveal wider stories about place, adaptation and human presence. Participants will bring a street photograph taken during the exhibition’s Evening Photo Walkthrough or independently. Using Tashkeel’s specialist printing facilities, they will reproduce their selected image in colour or black and white. They will then choose one seemingly ordinary element within the photograph and bring it into focus using hand embroidery. By combining photography with tactile, hand-applied processes, participants will transform an original photograph into a layered mixed-media artwork that encourages closer observation of everyday city life.
