All buildings carry echoes of the past. They are storytellers with walls, floors and ceilings that present telltale marks of stories and memories connecting people, time, and place. Built in 1987 by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum as a supermarket, Tashkeel’s building in Nad Al Sheba 1, Dubai later served as a medical clinic, pharmacy, nursery, and the first college in Dubai to offer a BA degree in Fine Art. Since 2008, with the approval of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the space has been home to Tashkeel and has witnessed the growth and development of UAE art and design.
Soon Tashkeel will embark on a renovation of this beloved building. But before closing the doors temporarily, Tashkeel invites Dubai’s photographers to explore this historic building and capture its essence before it is reborn.
* Participants are required to get their own camera (digital, analogue, phone).
* Please note that this is an open photography session and no instruction will be provided by Tashkeel.
