This workshop brings together two beloved DIY traditions — the deep blue magic of cyanotype printing and the freedom of the handmade zine. Using nothing more than light-sensitive paper, found objects, and the sun, participants will create striking prints in the cyanotype's signature Prussian blue, then fold, cut, and bind them into a small zine entirely their own. In a relaxed and experimental atmosphere, the workshop celebrates chance, hands-on making, and the joy of producing something tangible from light and paper. By the end of the session, each participant will have created and assembled a finished cyanotype zine to take home.
Why Choose This Workshop?
This workshop is open to everyone, whatever their experience — no photography, printing, or prior knowledge required. It combines two accessible and endlessly playful processes into a single afternoon, offering the thrill of watching images appear in sunlight alongside the satisfaction of binding your own little publication. Beyond learning two skills in one, participants come away with a finished, self-made object and a fresh appreciation for analogue making in a digital world.
What Participants Will Learn?
Participants will learn the fundamentals of the cyanotype process: how light-sensitive paper reacts to sunlight, how to compose with negatives and found objects, and how exposure and washing produce the final blue print. They will then explore the basics of zine-making — folding, sequencing, layout, and simple binding — and learn how to bring their prints together into a cohesive little publication. Along the way, they will gain an understanding of both cameraless printing and self-publishing, and the confidence to keep experimenting on their own.
