Poras Dhakan
Poras Dhakan is a practicing lawyer, photographer and a Fairtrade goldsmith. Paras was born in India and raised in Dubai, having moved here with his family in 1989. He is passionate about analogue photography and alternative printing processes and helps run 'Analog Photography in UAE' group. Paras is a Fairtrade registered goldsmith and an advocate for the use of Fairtrade metals in jewellery making. Poras is currently pursuing his MFA in Photography at the University of Ulster and he is a member of Tashkeel.

Chris advises clients from the Art & Luxury sector on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious matters. He is also a dual-qualified Solicitor and Chartered Trade Mark Attorney.

He acts for a broad range of clients - from artists, collectors, museums, financiers, and galleries through to luxury brands and international wine merchants. He advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters, and has particular expertise in managing and protecting their intellectual property rights, including copyright, moral rights, and global brand portfolios.

He is a dual qualified Solicitor and Chartered Trade Mark Attorney, is admitted to practice in England and Wales, and is a registered legal consultant in Dubai. He has represented clients from London, Paris, and the Middle East, and has conducted proceedings in the EUIPO, UKIPO, English High Court, and in international arbitration proceedings.

Chris is a LexisNexis contributing author, has published and delivered seminars on the interface between law and architecture, and has served on a number of CITMA working groups.

A key and exciting milestone in the growth of an artist's career is selling their work. In order to carry out such a commercial activity in Dubai, artists have to have some form of commercial registration. Luckily, Dubai has introduced a whole series of new options which allow artists to establish business with ease. This workshop will focus on these various options and the costs associated, and help participants navigate the often complicated territories through guidance from an expert lawyer.
