This masterclass introduces artists to the foundations of working with technology as a
creative medium, focusing on how interactive artworks are conceived, structured, and
executed.
Designed for artists with little or no technical background, the course takes a reverse
approach — starting from a finished artwork and breaking it down into its conceptual,
behavioral, and technical components.
Participants will explore how simple systems, such as sensors, motors, and microcontrollers, can be used to translate artistic ideas into interactive experiences.
Across four sessions, participants will:
- Understand how to develop a concept for an interactive artwork
- Learn how behavior (movement, reaction, timing) shapes meaning
- Gain hands-on exposure to basic tools such as Arduino, sensors, and motors
- Experiment with controlling movement and interaction through simple systems
Rather than focusing on technical complexity, the workshop emphasizes clarity of
thinking — guiding participants to connect artistic intention with practical execution.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a clear concept for an
interactive installation, supported by a foundational understanding of how it can be
realized.
