This talk explores the evolving relationship between art and technology through the lens of contemporary practice.
Drawing from her transition from classical oil painting to
interactive and kinetic installations, Khawla Abu Saleh shares her personal journey into
art-tech — highlighting both the challenges and breakthroughs that shaped her approach.
The session focuses on how artists can work with technology without becoming
engineers, introducing a clear framework for developing interactive artworks: from
concept, to behavior, to system.
Through case studies from her own work, the talk reveals the often unseen process behind creating responsive, time-based pieces — where movement, interaction, and audience presence become part of the artwork itself.
By demystifying technical tools and reframing them as creative instruments, the talk offers practical insight for artists interested in expanding their practice into new media, while maintaining conceptual depth and artistic integrity.
