This talk offers an in-depth look at Al Wissam Script, a contemporary Arabic calligraphic system that evolved at the intersection of classical calligraphy, design practice, and long-term visual research. Developed organically over more than two decades, the script emerged through continuous experimentation, professional application, and critical reflection—rather than as a predefined artistic project.

Beginning with an illustrated overview of its historical and conceptual roots, the talk explores how a deep respect for classical Arabic scripts informed the decision to create new letterforms instead of modifying traditional ones for modern use. Through sketches, visual studies, and completed works, participants will trace the script’s evolution from early experiments to a refined and cohesive system, shaped by proportion, rhythm, balance, and disciplined practice.

The talk also situates Al Wissam Script within contemporary Arabic visual culture, highlighting its applications in design, branding, and fine art. Positioned between heritage and innovation, the script is presented as a living, evolving practice—one grounded in tradition while actively engaging with the present
