World Conference on Creative Economy 2021
Organised by the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth and held at Dubai Exhibition Centre, Expo2020, Tashkeel programmed the conference’s ‘Maker Space’ platform, giving delegates (from school children to industry leaders and government representatives) the chance to drop in and be guided by an instructor to compose and print a set of collage-based postcards on a risograph machine or produce a barjeel tower maquette using a mobile woodworking kit.
Government of Dubai – Foundation of Social & Minor Affairs
Tashkeel developed a bespoke six-month programme to nurture transferable soft skills while strengthening a sense of cultural identity among 45 orphaned children, 8 to 21 years. Led by experienced bilingual instructors, each age-appropriate workshop held at Tashkeel Nad Al Sheba addressed a value reflecting Sheikh Zayed’s through a different art technique to foster self-confidence, communication, problem solving and creative thinking. The sessions resulted in a public exhibition at Tashkeel Al Fahidi, opened by the UAE Minister of State for Public Education and the Secretary General of the Foundation of Social & Minor Affairs.
Tashkeel has been delivering workshops for the district’s users and visitors for many years. Evening and weekend workshops of 2-3 hours are held in building foyers as well as private rooms. Offering one-on-one guidance from instructors, these group sessions enable participants to master the basics of bookbinding, digital illustration, casting and portrait drawing, among other techniques, allowing each one to take home a completed work made by hand. In addition to practical workshops, Tashkeel has also delivered photowalks and lecture-based seminars addressing topics such as the creative writing, the creative economy, and the history of UAE design.
