Khalid Al Banna
Khalid Al Banna is an Emirati artist who uses collage to explore subject matter pertinent to the history and rapid transformation of the UAE. Drawing primarily from elements of design, he is known for his black and white collages and vibrant textile compositions. In both iterations, the canvas is the negative space where his art is projected against it, in a fascination with world-building, borrowed from the field of architecture. Al Banna joined the Emirates Fine Arts Society in 1997 and most recently participated in ‘Al Burda Endowment Exhibition’ (Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, 2019), ‘Portrait of a Nation’ (Abu Dhabi Festival, 2016/ me Collectors Room, Berlin, 2017), the Kennedy Centre, Washington DC (2010) and group exhibitions in France and Austria.
