Juma Al Haj
Juma Alhaj’s work is derived from spiritual experiences that come from texts that have significance to the artist or a spiritual historic reference. These can range from ancient religious texts, personal diaries, notes, letters or any that evoke a sense of peace, longing or belonging. One can interpret his pieces as a transcendence towards nostalgia or a personal spiritual experience. Through his work, Juma dissolves grammatical structure and leaves nothing but the conceptualization of words they symbolise. A Sharjah native, Juma was mentored by artist Ted Ramsey at the New School of Northern Virginia. He holds a BSc in Visual Communication and a MA in Science International Relations.
