Embracing diverse media, Manal Al Dowayan’s work encompasses black and white photography, sculpture, video, sound, neon and large-scale participatory installations. Her artistic practice revolves around themes of active forgetting, archives and collective memory, with a large focus on the state of Saudi women and their representation.

In 2014, she received a research fellowship from New York University Abu Dhabi. Her work has been exhibited at Prospect 3 New Orleans, Gwangju Museum, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Victoria & Albert Museum and Mathaf Museum of Modern Arab Art. Her artworks can be found in the public collections of the British Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Louisiana Museum and Mathaf. Manal holds a MA in Systems Analysis and Design and lives in London where she is completing her MA in Contemporary Art Practice in Public Spheres at the Royal College of Art. She is represented by Cuadro Gallery in Dubai.

Manal joined Tashkeel in 2010 as Member 124. She has exhibited in ‘Made in Tashkeel’ (2014, 2016) and ‘CollaCurating: Sculptural Perspectives’ (2015).
