Every year, 2.5 million tons of plastic are consumed in the UAE and only 6% is currently recycled. To put these numbers in context, we could make five replicas of the Burj Khalifa every year with the plastic waste that goes into landfills. In this workshop, Hernan Torres and Edgar Mejia will discuss the technical challenges for recycling plastic waste and present feasible solutions to these. By utilizing open-source thermoforming machines, participants will be exposed to the complete process of upcycling plastic waste into something precious.
