Mert Onur

Mert Onur is a product designer currently based in Istanbul, Turkey. Starting his creative career in high school with ceramics, he eagerly searches for new materials to work with and learns about craft techniques by visiting traditional craftsman, learning in the process through making. After graduating from Industrial Design in Istanbul Bilgi University in 2019, he worked in Hayalbilim, an architecture and design company where he gained experience in interior design, product design and sculpture. He designs products from various materials working with different craftsman who use traditional techniques in a contemporary style. Maintaining the natural aspects of the material he uses in his products, he also showcases how the products are being made in the hands of the skilled craftsman to create a narrative background. He specializes in terms of the usability of the products, designs them to be “food-safe” and environmentally friendly with esthetic and unique touches.
