Toma Gabor

Born:
1966

Toma is a Romanian artist who grew up in Transylvania and has been living in the Middle East since 2003. His practice and studio explorations are focused on three-dimensional, site-specific sculpture, photography, installation, painting and drawing. He uses conventional and unconventional materials through modelling or in combination, striving to either enhance or diminish their characteristics. Another path in his evolution has been the connection to sustainability. This experience includes usage of recycled materials and off-grid living solutions.

Alongside his three-dimensional art practices, Toma teaches, curates and participates on academic juries. His works have been featured in various shows including: The Peanut Factory (residency, USA); Location (American University in Dubai, Langford 120 Gallery, Melbourne, Australia); Crossing the Line (American University in Dubai); Start '18 (Sharjah University); Light & Heavy, Cut & Fold, Carve & Cast (American University in Dubai); MIND (DUCTAC); Silent Conversations (Tashkeel). Toma is a member of Tashkeel.
