Japanese Woodblock Printing (Moku Hanga)

This workshop will provide the opportunity to learn about the background and origins of Moku Hanga and some of Japan's main woodblock artists. Participants will be exposed to the use of traditional tools and equipment used in the production of a Japanese woodblock print.

They will discover how the medium can be used to produce imagery in a number of different ways; using the rich viscous inks, hand-carved blocks and the tactile nature of the traditional print process to produce work that cannot be achieved using a digital printer.

Through demonstration and guided practise participants will learn how to;

- prepare a woodblock

- transfer a simple design onto a woodblock

- cut your design

- preparing paper

- inking up your block and printing onto your paper.
