This workshop aims at investigating the visual elements in medieval manuscripts that historically produced emotions of wonder and awe. A pre-selected archive of different medieval hand-written and printed manuscripts will serve as our reference in this investigation. We will look at commonly used elements like detailed ornaments, gold leaf and precious stones and how they were utilised to produce the visually rich manuscripts of the that period.

The workshop aims to produce content that can generate similar emotional responses using experimental and contemporary tools and visuals. We will try to discover design methods that can translate these elements into pages that are able to imbue any textual content with this emotional palette.
