In a bid to explore her heritage through natural materials, Latifa Saeed discovered a new function for ‘khoos’ (palm frond weaving), which uses mechanisms of motion to create sculptural toys. The results reflect Saeed’s belief that by actively visualising inherited knowledge as part of our future, we can ensure traditional crafts continue to grow. Thubabbah is a levitating fly made possible through the integration and application of traditional material, modern engineering processes and magnets. Thubabbah was exhibited as part of 'UAE Design Stories' at Milan Design Week in 2018.

Latifa Saeed is an Emirati artist and designer who across the fields of fine art, graphic design, advertising, branding and product design. A graduate of Zayed University, she employs an experimental approach, both conceptually and with the materials and techniques she uses, in her art practice and her design commissions.
