Made in Tashkeel: Introduction to Laser Cutting Garments

Kay Li, a Hong Kong-born fashion designer, established her eponymous label in 2012 to create a line of clean and contemporary womenswear. The essence of the label is to produce innovative but wearable pieces that express and accentuate individuality. With her air in textile design and background in technology, she creates original fabrics that fuses traditional craft with technology to complement her relaxed androgynous designs.

An introductory workshop of laser cutting on fabric. Following the artwork The Blue Voronoi as part of Made in Tashkeel 2017, participants will be given a practical overview on creating and experimenting with simple Adobe Illustrator graphics and laser-cutting techniques. Participants will also explore different types of fabrics and produce a range of laser-cut samples. At the end of the course, everyone will laser-cut a tunic garment to take home from KAY LI AW17 collection.
