The photographer Lateefa maktoum may be familiar to those of you who saw the Lateefa College student shows last year, in which she participated and helped curate. She launches an ambitious new project this year, with former Lateefa College co-ordinator Jill Hoile, which should be of massive help to the city ‘s artistic community. Tashkeel is an multimedia resource for local artists, based on Nad Al sheba, which sees a suit of open-access studios, fitted out with the very latest cutting-edge equipment and facilities, available for the use of members. There’s a computer studio, kitted out with Apple Macs, bristling with all manner of creative software, large format digital printing, jewellery workstations, a painting studio, photography darkroom, printing/silk-screening facilities, textile printing and 3d workshops. There’s also an emphasis on creating a mix ‘n’ mingle atmosphere, in which the city’s creative’s can enjoy the benefit of the each other’s company and can exchange ideas and nurture their creative processes. Membership is open to all – monthly membership is Dhs 700,quarterly Dhs2,000, annual Dhs7,500 and a 10 percent discount for five or more people joining together. Students can enjoy concessionary rates, with monthly membership at Dhs560, quarterly Dhs1,600 and annual membership Dhs6,000. A splendid resource, Tashkeel looks set to become a hot spot for Dubai’s creative’s this year.
