Artist Statement

“If This Wall Could Walk” is an unconventional experimentation with culture. It represents the ‘hybrid’ society we share this modern, ever-evolving city with. Cultures merge, trends interfere and people evolve or adapt to exist in this vibrant space. There is no separation between history and modernity, between Eastern traditions and Western influences. It is all intertwined to create a new breed of people- the tolerant, urban, vibrant, androgynous ‘harajuku’ super-heroes of our time. Like a world of graffiti has spilled into ours, letting a bunch of whacky characters out to play!

The differences around us, the inspirations of others, the colors and patterns of individual’s tastes, music; these are the striking things which makes enjoying an animated city like ours worthwhile. The tiny world created in this piece shows freedom to express oneself and to accept each other’s differences, which can sometimes be difficult in our somewhat subjective, real world.
