Lateefa bint Maktoum graduated from Zayed University, Latifa College in 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts. She has been an exhibiting artist since 2004 and has been the founder and Director of Tashkeel since 2008 an art and design studio space and gallery.
Lateefa is a painter turned photographer who is known and has gained recognition for her digital montage work. She has shown in international exhibitions including Venice, Washington, Paris, New York, Denver, Brisbane, Shanghai and Korea, in addition to numerous local exhibitions in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Lateefa has been an annual contributor to the “Art4Sight” auction since 2012 in support of Noor Dubai Foundation’s global programme for the prevention of blindness. Her work was selected for Emirati Expressions in Abu Dhabi in both 2009 and in 2011, as well as showing in the UAE Pavilion in EXPO 2010 Shanghai. Lateefa was a featured artist in the UAE pavilion at the Venice Biennial in 2011. In 2013 she exhibited her work at the renowned “Institut du Monde Arabe” in Paris (Arab World Institute) during the “Dubai Next: Faces of Tomorrow” exhibition which was held in Le Mobile Art Pavilion designed by Zaha Hadid.
Lateefa’s work was included in the touring exhibition, “Past Forward: Contemporary Art from the Emirates” which was shown in nine cities in the United States of America between May 2014 and May 2016. The Observers of Change series was also shown as part of “1971: Contemporary Art from the UAE” at the Farjam Foundation in Dubai. Between April and September 2016 Lateefa’s work was again exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, in the exhibition entitled “Jardins d’ Orient”.
Lateefa’s artwork is included in private collections nationally and internationally.
Lateefa is the founder and director of Tashkeel, a public art and design studio providing specialist facilities for artists and designers living and working in the UAE. She received the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Patron of the Arts Awards in 2010 and 2011 and the Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award for 2012.
